FAQ

What pest control chemicals are used?

Various pest control chemicals are used depending on the type of pests we are dealing within a home or office. However, all chemicals are harmless to pets and humans.

Rodent control is often the most effective using bait laden with rodenticides, which is locked in a tamper-resistant bait station. Today there is a myriad of rodenticides available, which work as a single dose anticoagulant. Depending on the situation, rodent traps may also need to be used.

Pest control for crawling insects may take different forms with varying chemicals like dilatable pesticides, oil-based residual, non-residual pesticides, and powder. Since situations vary and every pest is different, the choice of chemicals varies, but all chemicals used are approved by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency or PMRA.

Powders will often be used in hard to reach areas like cracks and crevices to ensure a long-lasting effect; it also works effectively as a flushing agent. However, the dust needs to remain free of dirt and humidity to be effective.

Oil-based chemicals are used as non-residual pesticides to mainly flush out pests that may be hiding in otherwise inaccessible areas of a structure. Dilatable pesticides are mixed with water before being used to target pests like cockroaches, bed bugs, centipedes, ants, flying insects, spiders, etc.

The dosing for each type of chemical we use varies and depends on the product as well as recommendations by PMRA. Chemicals that are meant to be mixed with water are available in highly concentrated forms, with different formulations like Soluble Concentrates and Emulsifiable Concentrate, etc.

Commercial grade chemicals can only be purchased and used by licensed, trained, insured, and bonded pest control companies like Pesticon. The chemicals are used with care by a seasoned and licensed exterminator. Pesticon also ensures that the right post pest treatment and precautions are followed to ensure further safety and effectiveness of the extermination process.

Do we need monthly pest control?

Businesses that are in the food serving or manufacturing industry certainly need monthly, weekly, and biweekly pest control to ensure that their environment is clean. We also recommend warehouses, greenhouses, and all other commercial and industrial facilities to get regular pest management.

Pest issues are unavoidable for most industrial and commercial businesses, which is why active management programs are so important. We use different exterior and interior pest management systems to ensure the best pest management. Take, for instance, the use of exterior bait stations, which is a big part of rodent management to ensure that facilities are free from mice and rats.

We offer a home protection plan for residential pest control. The plan helps keep homeowners safe throughout the year from a myriad of common pests. You can find out more here.

How long do you have to stay out of your house after pest control work has been completed?

It is not necessary to vacate the premises for every type of pest control procedure. For example, we use dust (powder) and gel for cockroaches, dust and bait for ants, baiting for rodents (mice and rats), the only precaution is to avoid that area while pest extermination is in process.

When using chemicals to exterminate flying and crawling insects, it is best to vacate and keep out of the premises for up to 6 hours. You’ll want to keep the home or office well ventilated by opening doors and windows for 10-15 minutes so that it is safe again.

How to control insects in my house?

The best most effective way is through habitat modification. You can change things like humidity, caulking, sealing, etc. to seal off spots that harbor pests. However, in the majority of cases, you’ll need professional extermination first.

All pests have their own ways of invading your home. Bed bugs, for instance, will travel with you from an infested location like a motel hotel or another person’s home. Cockroaches will often follow you from the grocery store and come hidden in cardboard packaging or any utilities you may be sharing with a neighbor. Sharing walls in your property, condo, townhomes, and semi-detached means that their (neighbors’) cockroach problem soon becomes yours.

Rodents will generally enter your property via air vents, central vacuuming pipes, air conditioning pipes, and a myriad of other pipes on the property. You’ll also be invaded if the front door, garage door, or back door is left open by mistake.

Carpenter Ants

They will nest in the window frame or the door and sometimes behind plumbing pipes where there is a lot of moisture and humidity. That’s why you can, in some cases, remedy the situation by changing the old window or door frames. The ants can also end up in your kitchen, searching for food.

Pharaoh Ants

Generally, like all other ants, they are attracted to moisture and a good food source. So, by eliminating bread crumbs, maple syrup, and honey etc. you can get rid of Pharaoh Ants, but professional extermination can help you get rid of them sooner.

What are some common house bugs?
